Food Photography Sydney
Food should look as good as it tastes. But getting a great food photograph isn’t simply a matter of pointing a camera at a plate. The light, styling, colour, texture and composition all play a part in making the food look natural, appetising and true to what is actually being served.
As a Sydney food photographer, I work with restaurants, chefs, food brands, publishers and businesses to create photographs that make people want to stop, look and, ultimately, take a bite.
My approach to food photography is straightforward: good light, careful composition and an understanding of what makes the food special. Whether it’s a beautifully plated dish, a new product, a recipe, a menu or a complete food campaign, the photography needs to tell the right story.
Food photography that works for your brand
Every food business has its own personality. A fine dining restaurant may need something refined and considered, while a food brand might need bright, contemporary images for packaging, advertising, social media or an online store.
I photograph restaurants, menus, packaged food, fresh produce, drinks, recipes and food products, creating images for websites, advertising, editorial, menus, social media and marketing campaigns.
Sometimes the photograph needs to be clean and simple, allowing the food to speak for itself. Other times, adding props, ingredients, hands, movement or a more environmental setting can give the image a stronger sense of place and personality.
It’s all in the detail
Food is full of texture, colour and small details. The crisp edge of a pastry, the gloss of a sauce, the steam rising from a dish or the freshness of carefully prepared ingredients can make all the difference in a photograph.
I take the time to understand the food and how it should be presented, working with the available light or creating it carefully in the studio. Styling and photography work together to make the final image feel natural rather than overly staged.
The aim isn’t to make food look like something it isn’t. It’s to photograph it honestly, beautifully and in a way that captures what makes it worth eating.
